In Acts 18:24, Luke introduces his readers to Apollos, an eloquent Jew from Alexandria, the huge port city in Egypt named after Alexander the Great. Alexandria housed the largest library and one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World—The Pharos Lighthouse. It was in Alexandria that the Greek Septuagint translation of the Old Testament was translated in 250 B.C.
